Who has influenced your life and leadership style most profoundly?

The most influential person in my life journey is my wife, Shaleshni Praasd, who has always encouraged me to succeed and supported my family. I have learned various leadership styles from many leaders, but the most important leadership techniques I have learned are from Professor Shaista Shameem, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Fiji.

When the options are unclear and the risks are significant, how do you make challenging decisions?

In situations like this, first I clearly articulate what the decision is about and why it is difficult, then maintain the focus. Thereafter, I systematically collect data relevant to the decision. This includes facts, data points, and expert opinions. I acknowledge the gaps in knowledge and the limitations of the available information. By taking full accountability, I ensure to document all potential risks associated with each option. I analyze the likelihood of each risk occurring and the potential impact if it does. This helps in understanding the gravity of the situation.

Which book or piece of fiction has influenced your perspective the most?

I read the World Bank reports and national budgets with the national development plans to ensure accountability.

What is the biggest sacrifice you have ever had to make for your job or career?

The biggest sacrifice I had to make for my career was when I did not take up a scholarship for my higher education and instead chose to continue working so that I could support my family.

Which values would you like to pass on to the next generation?

I would say become a person and practice complete honesty, as well as time management, which is very important.

How does your personal life and family affect your leadership style?

Sometimes work becomes very demanding, and to meet deadlines, I have to sacrifice personal engagements like family events and focus on work priorities.

How would you differentiate your leadership style from others?

I always listen first, then form my judgment, making sure I use both approaches—bottom-up and top-down—and recognize everyone’s efforts without claiming credit for others’ work.

Which three personal attributes do you think were most important to your success as a leader?

Three personal attributes vital for my leadership success are integrity, self-awareness, and the ability to inspire others.
