by The Leaders Today
- Choose Only Reliable UPI Apps
- Use only official apps, such as those from your bank, BHIM, Google Pay, Paytm, PhonePe, and Amazon Pay.
- Download from reliable sources, such as the iOS App Store or Google Play Store.
- Steer clear of third-party download URLs and APK downloads.
- Double Check Again Before Paying
- Before sending money, make sure the mobile number or UPI ID is correct.
- Before confirming the payment, make sure the recipient’s name matches the one displayed on your UPI app.
- Avoid scanning anonymous QR codes from unknown senders or haphazard flyers.
- Refrain from Giving Away Your UPI PIN
- Like your bank’s ATM PIN, the UPI PIN is confidential; never share it, not even to family members or customer
- Your UPI identification number or OTP will never be requested by a bank or UPI app.
- Steer clear of “Request Money” scams
- It’s a fraud if somebody sends you a “money demand” that reads, “Approve to receive money.”
- Approve requests only if you intend to send money rather than receive it.
- Protect Your Phone
- For your UPI apps, use device key, sensor unlock, and app lock.
- Call your bank right away if you misplace your mobile device or block UPI by calling the NPCI helpline at 1800- 1201-740 or your bank’s customer service.
- Keep Your OS and App Up to Date:
- Updates frequently address security issues; turn on automatic updates for your phone and UPI app.
- Don’t neglect any strange activity, such as recessions, malfunctions, or advertisements.
- Exercise Caution When Using Apps That Share Screens
- Fraudsters frequently abuse software like AnyDesk, TeamViewer, or QuickSupport to gain control of your phone. Installing these should only be done with approved guidance.
- Examine Email and SMS Alerts
- Activate email and SMS alerts for each UPI transaction.
- Every month, check your bank statements for any unusual activity.
- File a Fraud Report. Use the integrated “Submit a Scam” or “Raise Dispute” features of your UPI app right away.
- Complain online at cybercrime.gov.in or by calling India’s cybercrime hotline at 1930.
- Recognize Your Boundaries
- For your protection, UPI has a single-day transaction restriction of ₹1 lakh for the majority of banks.
- If at all possible, stay away from keeping sizable sums in UPI-linked wallets.
